The 12 days of Crossmax..
On the 1st day of Crossmax my new loves gave to me Kevlar quick laces with friction free eyelets and a lace pocket for quick trouble free lacing.
On the 2nd day of Crossmax my new loves gave to me contragrip light and contragrip high abrasion outsoles for superior grip on wet surfaces.
On the 3rd day of Crossmax my new loves gave to me ortholite sock liners and neutral molded eva midsoles for superior comfort and a smoother cushioned ride.
On the 4th day of Crossmax my new loves gave to me Sensiflex allowing my foot to expand, but in a controlled manner, increasing my foothold whether I’m on road or off road.
On the 5th day of Crossmax my new loves gave to me Neutral OS tendons that provide energy return and a smooth transition from heel strike to toe-off propelling me along so I look as though my feet are winged!
On the 6th day of Crossmax I discovered that there is a big difference between a men’s and women’s fit in the same size shoe. The women’s fit is narrower and suited my foot shape better. If you have a broader foot – go for the men’s.
On the 7th day of Crossmax I went out for my first tentative run since badly bruising my big toe nail on my left foot. The shoes were OK, not as cushioned as my Speedcross favourites. My judgement was reserved.
On the 8th day of Crossmax I ran up the side of Latrigg with the Keswick Athletic Club. It was mainly road running but some uneven wet surfaces. They were very impressive. Good on the up & down hill, grippy on the wet and felt great for the whole run. Good road contact and nice and flexible for the more techy bits. Feeling the love.
On the 9th day of Crossmax I ran around the town of Keswick, a 4 mile road run, up and down hills, on pavements and on cobbled roads. They performed well, I had a bit of a tightness in my right heel but changed my foot strike positioning and overcame it.
On the 10th day of Crossmax I ran along Borrowdale Road and down on to the Derwant Water path, a mixture on footpaths, road and off road – all flat, some very wet and some uneven. Once again they performed beautifully and kept me flying along.
On the 11th day of Crossmax I had to wash them to restore their beautiful new red shoe look, easy to wash by removing the insole and rinsing. Quick to dry.
On the 12th day of Crossmax I retired them for a few days to allow them to rest and recover and because my Speedcross were looking a bit neglected!
I never thought I would find a shoe to rival my Speedcross II’s, I haven’t, but what I have found is a pair of shoes to perfectly compliment my Speedcross III’s (the newest edition to my shoe stable – ride ‘em like the wind bullseye!) The Crossmax is a perfect alternate shoe to the Speedcross for those mixed days when you run more road than trail.
