MATT:
Got up silly early. 5am to be exact. Scoffed some cereal and got on the road. It was the A49, but not busy because it was so early. Had some beastie hills to climb into a headwind but at least the tarmac was smooth. The pace felt really slow, but Lee couldn’t keep up. We had to put him at the front to set the pace. After a bit he had to stop to do up his shoe lace so we checked the mileage. 8 miles in 35 minutes! That’s a pretty ridiculous pace if you aren’t familiar with how fast we go. That’s nearly 14mph and the fastest marathon pace is only a bit over 15mph! Considering we had rain, hills and headwind this is pretty crazy.
Rest of the day blurred past. Met a well friendly woman whose car had broken down who gave us all a big bar of chocolate! Later we met the mayor and got given some more chocolate haha. Staying in the warm and dry with my cousins tonight, so I’m gonna get some sleep. Laters!
CHARLIE:
Alarm at 5 for a crazy early start so we could blast down the A49 before the traffic. Good call because we managed 8 miles in half an hour and eventually had breakfast in Monmouth at half 8, 20 miles into our day already. Pretty good feeling eh! Powered on to Chepstow straight away climbing massively ‘all the uphill in the world!’. It was all worth it for the sweet downhill that followed…we had five miles of downhill and super smooth all the way to Chepstow. We crossed the Severn Bridge into Bristol and followed the cycle route through Avonmouth to finish the day with 55 miles, bringing our total to 716! Only 5 days left but it’s still such a long way. We finished the day with some press coverage in Burnham-on-Sea where the mayor and his entourage presented us with 3kg of chocolate and we had our pictures taken for the local papers. Free food from the café at Garden World, s’all good…

The plan for today was to get up as early as possible as the was a section of A road we had to skate along and did not want to annoy any motorists. 5am the alarm went off and yet again it was raining! We hit the road by around 6 o’clock and we were flying along and we had done 20 miles by lunch time. The rest of the day was pretty cool. My favourite bit was crossing the Severn Bridge into Bristol as it signals the start into the South West.
