After climbing 5898 metres, Jenny will probably need a coffee herself...
On 31st October this year, Starbucks District Manager, Jenny Warrillow will attempt to fulfil her dream of climbing Kilimanjaro. To show their support, our Manchester Oxford Road team have passed on their knowledge to Jenny, giving hints and tips on how best to approach the climb.
“We have some experienced mountaineers in store who have passed on some sound advice to Jenny. We were also able to give her some discount on the essential pieces of kit she is going to need. Our support and advice was key for Jenny, as like many people, she likes cake & coffee and isn't a fan of exercise!” – David from Cotswold Outdoor Oxford Road, Rock Bottom.
Jenny has taken up the challenge in support of the National Literacy Trust, aiming to raise £3,500 for the charity. However, climbing Kilimanjaro is no mean feat and Jenny has been training to ensure she can complete the challenge and raise as much money as possible.
“Just knowing that the money we raise can help to change people’s lives will keep me going up the 5898 metres (that’s 19,340 ft in old money!), over 6 days and over 80 kilometres – the oxygen at the top of the climb is less than half that found at sea level!”
To date, Jenny has raised almost £2000.00. To donate money and help change lives through literacy, please pledge what you can online by clicking here.
We wish Jenny the very best of luck!
