Hi Daniel, Tricky choice! I've recently converted to using a Hydraform reservoir, and it's great except for one small but significant fault (which I'll come to in a moment). They come with a locking valve, the formed back panel helps to avoid 'barreling' in soft-backed packs, and they are genuinely very sturdy with a rock-solid carrying handle. The only issue is with the magnetic attachment for the sternum strap, which only last week reversed the polarity of my compass on a walking trip on the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. It's normally a very handy way of retaining the hose, but if we had been on a more obscure route involving some challenging map-work this could have been a real issue. The other significant difference is the warranty offered by the two companies. Whilst Osprey offer their 'all-mighty guarantee' on any of their packs, their reservoirs are only protected under warranty for a year (though if properly used, cleaned and dried should last far longer). Camelbak in contrast offer a lifetime guarantee on their Hydrotanium reservoirs. Features-wise, assuming proper care, and providing that you can keep it at a safe distance to your compass, the Hydraform is the nicer product. Otherwise, I'd be tempted to play it safe with a Camelbak. Pricing:
Osprey Hydraform 3L reservoir: £26
Camelbak Hydrotanium 3L reservoir: £26 One key thing to be aware of with either of these bladders is not to put anything other than water inside them (with the exception of Nuun electrolyte tabs), and to dry them thoroughly after each use. Hope this helps!
